Pitons

The Pitons Management Area is an area in the southwest of the island of St. Lucia, a few kilometers south of the town of Soufriere.

The 3,000 -acre reserve includes:

  • Tropical rainforest, subtropical rainforest, dry forest, depending on the height zone,
  • Two cooled volcanic cores 770 and 743 m high Pitons ( Gros Piton and Petit Piton, Gros Piton is the more southerly and slightly higher of the two peaks )
  • A geothermal field with sulfur fumaroles and hot springs as well as

The area is both because of the numerous, some of them rare species, its geological diversity and because of the scenic beauty since 2004 on the list of UNESCO World Natural Heritage.
