Piura (Region)

The Piura Region (Spanish: Región Piura, Quechua Piwra suyu ) is a region in northwestern Peru. Covering an area of ​​35,891 km ² 1,467,538 inhabitants. The capital is Piura. Region and city were named after the river Piura.

Geography

The region is bordered to the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north by Ecuador. Adjacent regions of Peru are Cajamarca, Lambayeque and Tumbes.

The landscape is rather flat and dominated by desert areas such as in the province of Sechura.

In this region, moved the Vicus culture, which was known for its pottery and goldsmith work.
