Pivdenne

Piwdenne (Ukrainian Південне; Russian Пивденное / Piwdennoje or earlier Южный / Youzhny ) is a city in the Ukraine in the north of Kharkiv Oblast about 18 kilometers southwest of the city of Kharkiv with about 8,000 inhabitants ( 2011).

The city was founded in 1963 by the merger of the villages Komariwka and Youzhny and took the name of the settlement was founded in 1906 for the workers of the Russian Southern Railway, Youzhny and their Ukrainian counterpart Piwdenny ( = " south ").
