Piwigo

Piwigo (formerly Piwigo ) is a free to web standards ( HTML 4.01, CSS2 ) compliant photo gallery licensed under GPL. It is written in PHP and uses a MySQL database.

History

Piwigo was originally written by Pierrick Le Gall as a personal project, not knowing that other projects already exist. On 15 April 2002, the first version of Piwigo was published.

To enable non-programmers to use the Piwigo, the software has been restructured and incorporated the use of templates. This allows the user to change the appearance of the gallery with HTML and CSS.

Later versions allowed it to store images at arbitrary locations in arbitrary categories.

Then the function " Virtual Categories " has been added.

The initiator Pierrick Le Gall announced the name change from Piwigo to Piwigo on his private website on 24 August 2008 in order to have a shorter, more memorable and unique name that can be easily found in search engines and still abbreviated as PWG.

Today Piwigo is supported by 14 programmers and a thriving community.
