PKP class EN57

The EN57 Series is a series of three-part electric railcar of the Polish State Railways ( PKP).

The EN57 series is almost exclusively used in mass transit, occasionally also for express trains.

EN57 are also on the S -Bahn routes of Szybka Kolej Miejska w Trójmieście the outskirts of Gdańsk (Danzig) as well as in regional railway company in Mazovia Koleje Mazowieckie, which operates public transport in the Warsaw area, in use.

Construction

The EN57 EMUs consist of a fixed configuration of three vehicle parts: two control car (manufacturer name 5B) and a railcar ( manufacturer's designation 6A) in between. Scharfenberg couplers at the ends enable the coupling together multiple unit trains.

Interior

In each car there are three compartments with a passage between rows of seats. They are separated by two equipped with sliding doors spaces available. The control cars come with a toilet, railcars, however, there is a cabinet. The front parts of the control car, however, are decorated differently; on both sides, an additional manually operated double doors exist, which leads to a larger compartment with folding seats and the one entering the control room. This multi-purpose compartments are used as service rooms, luggage or bicycle compartments etc.. In the modernized train set EN57 - 2000, the multi-purpose rooms are connected at the ends of the train with the spaces available, at the entrance doors lifts for the disabled are available.

Construction series

Up to the number 601, the trains seats in the 1st and 2nd class, then only the second class had. Up to the number 1113, the car bodies were built with corrugated side walls, then with smooth sidewalls. The front of the trains to No. 1825 have three front windows, from number 1900 to 1953 new fronts with two windows were installed, which correspond to the number EW58. Conversions

The PKP has made ​​in recent years with the help of EU funding a redesign program, with the EN57 are renewed and equipped with matrix - train destination signs, while the plastic seats are replaced by modern seats. Partly also the fronts of the railcar to be replaced.

Six EN57 were rebuilt for the Szybka Kolej Miejska w Warszawie ( Warsaw S -Bahn ) to railcar series 14WE, the entire assembly was replaced.
