Pku

Pku, also pzuk (Armenian Պկու ), is a traditional Armenian wind instrument with a single reed. It has a melody pipe made ​​of wood with seven finger holes and one octave range. It is not overblown. At the lower end of the sound tube a cow horn serves as a resonance funnel. Thus, it is one of the horn pipes. Its sound can be soft or flashy depending on the play.

Today, the pku is produced in different basic tones and tones of voice. The mouthpiece is similar to the clarinet mouthpiece, made ​​of ebonite. The instruments of the treble range is about 25 cm long, 35 cm alto, tenor instruments about 56 cm ( sound tube in two parts ). Different basic tones or keys are possible.

Precursor of the instrument were mentioned by Armenian historians in the 5th century AD under the names pogh and tmbuk. In the 20th century it was largely forgotten, but was rediscovered in the course of the return on Armenian musical traditions and developed ..
