Pla d'Urgell

The comarca of Pla d' Urgell is located in the province of Lleida of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, (Spain). The community association has an area of ​​305.1 km ² and 37,044 inhabitants (2009 ). The community association was created in 1988 by the merger of communities that formerly belonged to the Comarcas les Garrigues, Noguera, Segrià and Urgell.

Location

The community association is located in the western part of Catalonia, some 20 km east of the provincial capital, Lleida. It is bordered on the north by the comarca of Noguera, in the east of Urgell, in the south of Garrigues and to the west by Segrià. Together with the Comarcas Garrigues, Noguera, Segarra and Urgell Segrià forms the region 's territory Ponent.

The fertile plain of Urgell ( cat. Plana d' Urgell ) is part of zentralkatalanischen sink. The landscape with its rolling hills is criss-crossed by a network of irrigation canals. Ivars - Vila- sana

Channel of Urgell

Even the Arabs built the first irrigation systems in the plane of Urgell.
