Pla de l'Estany

The comarca of Pla de l' Estany is located in the province of Girona of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). The community association has an area of ​​262.8 km ² and 30,153 inhabitants (2009 ). The name of Pla de l' Estany means place of the lake, this is the lake of Banyoles. Originally, the community association was part of the Comarca Gironès and was only in 1988 due to a referendum on its own.

Location

The community association is located in the eastern part of Catalonia, north of the provincial capital of Girona. It is bordered on the north by the comarca of Alt Empordà, in the south and to the west Gironès Garrotxa. Together with the Comarcas Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà, Garrotxa, Gironès, Selva and Ripollès forms the region 's territory Comarques giro ines.

The reservoir Estany de Banyoles is the center of Pla de l' Estany. The eastern part lies in a fertile plain, bounded on the north by the River Fluvia and to the south is in the catchment area of the river Terri. The western part of the comarca is located in the mountains of the Serra de Rocacorba.
