Placido Rizzotto

Placido Rizzotto ( born January 2, 1914 in Corleone, † March 10, 1948 ) was an Italian union leaders and active in the fight against the Mafia.

Life

He was Secretary of Labour of Corleone. After the Second World War, he became the leader of the trade union movement and fought against the Mafia. This intimidated in return its employees and increasingly isolated him. On 10 March 1948 Rizzotto disappeared without a trace. The police made Luciano Liggio responsible.

2009 were found remains of his corpse in a mass grave. In March 2012, the Italian Council of Ministers decided to align a state funeral for him. On May 24 of that year he was buried in Corleone in the presence of President Giorgio Napolitano, as well as several top politicians and union leaders.
