The task of the established in 2002 in the extreme southwest of the province on the northern banks of the Ottawa, only 28.1 km ² large park, is to get a small portion of wetlands ( marais ) of Ottawa.

History

The earliest archaeological finds at the confluence of Petite Rivière de la Nation and Rivière des Outaouais ( Ottawa River) go back to the first settlement of the area by Paleo- Indians. Several excavations were last carried out under the direction of Marcel Laliberté. Fur animal hunting and missionary sat in a 17th century, the area belonged to the French time to Seigneurie de la Petite- Nation.

Flora and Fauna

The area is an important stopover for the Canada Goose, here comes before the threatened in Canada American bittern ( petit Blongios ).

Nowhere else in the province, the density of beaver population is so high. It is about 14 beaver colonies to 10 km ². 1996 to 2001, trapping was still allowed, since it is forbidden. The early decimated, now quickly growing population allows for research on the effects on the ecological environment.

Snapping turtles live in the park, but raccoons and Streifenskunks ( Mephitis mephitis ) drops her offspring predominantly to the victim. However, the species is not endangered in the park area.
