Plastoquinone ( PQ abbreviated from English plastoquinone ) is a counting to the group of quinones chemical compound found in the thylakoid membranes of chloroplasts. It is involved in the light reaction of photosynthesis, by transporting member as an electron transport chain from the electrons to the photosystem II cytochrome b6f complex.

Molecular structure

Main body of the plastoquinone is the counting to the group of quinones 1,4- benzoquinone, which contains at positions 2 and 3 is a methyl group and in the 5-position an isoprenoid side chain. Plastoquinone is referred to the number of isoprene units in the side chain as a PQ -9. This hydrophobic side chain allows the anchoring of the connection in the also hydrophobic region of the thylakoid biomembrane.
