Style

After the four previous works last Incantations from 1978, Oldfield broke with the previous styles. While standing on the A- side of the record with the title track again for a very long work, but already this plant showed significant changes. Already on the record sleeve (and later on CD releases ) of the Long Track is divided into several individually named parts. Instead filigree arrangements for keyboard and other instruments Oldfield performs the melodies predominantly with the electric guitar. He also processed in Platinum specifically influences from the disco area, especially as regards the monitoring and instrumentation ( brass insert).

On the B - side of the record available for the first time in Oldfields work shorter songs with vocals. In addition to the songs Woodhenge and Sally and Into Wonderland, who are still influenced by folk and the style of the previous albums, are the instrumental Punkadiddle and the cover of the Gershwin piece I Got Rhythm.

Even up to and including the album Crises from 1983 kept Oldfield albums in the construction to be placed on the A- side of a long track and short on the B - side numbers.

During his appearance Live at Montreux 1981 Oldfield surprised his fans with a 5 man plus singer rewritten interpretation, as opposed to the album version completely relies on traditional instruments.
