Platinum ( IV ) bromide is an inorganic chemical compound of the platinum from the group consisting of bromides.
Production and representation
Platinum ( IV ) bromide, by reaction of H2 Platinbromwasserstoffsäure [ PtBr6 ] · 9H2O (which can be represented by the reaction of platinum with hydrobromic acid ) are obtained with bromine.
It can also be obtained by reaction of bromine with platinum, wherein the reaction proceeds very slowly.
Properties
Platinum (IV ) bromide is a dark red to black purple solid which is soluble in water to form H2 [ PtBr4 (OH ) 2]. It is very slightly soluble in ethanol and in ether, and has an orthorhombic crystal structure with space group Pbca (a = 1199 pm, b = 1365 pm, c = 633 pm ).
