Plazac

Plazac is a commune with 703 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Dordogne and the Aquitaine region.

History

Middle Ages

Plazac was founded in the Middle Ages as a market place, which was built around a castle and a Roman church from the 12th century around. The Pope Urban III. adopted in 1187, this church under his protection, by giving the area the Bishop of Périgueux. It was the bishops of Périgueux, who built the castle in order to protect the church and the people. Hélie Servient, Bishop of Périgueux, died on 12 March 1387th

The Hundred Years War

During the Hundred Years War in November 1397 under the reign of Charles VI. besieged by the cooperating with the English troops Count of Perigord, the owner of the castle Montignac, with his troops Pierre de Durfort, the Bishop of Périgueux, in the Castle of Plazac. He could not conquer the castle, but his soldiers broke into the yard, stole and wounded many men. Part of the church and the castle was damaged. In the mid-15th century the church was rebuilt and enlarged. 1455 the deputies of the State gathered under Périgord in this church.
