Pleasant Point Museum and Railway

Pleasant Point Museum and Railway is a railway museum and a museum railway in the town of Pleasant Point, west of Timaru in the Canterbury region, located on the South Island of New Zealand.

History

With the opening of the railway line from Timaru on December 24, 1875 Pleasant Point was up to the continued construction of the line for over a year endpoint of the line. Until the termination of the Fairlie branch line on March 2, 1968, the station was used as a typical rural station.

After setting the railway line is a traditional club was formed with the objective to keep the original, built in 1875 Pleasant Point station building Built in the 1930s ticket office. However, the club finally took care of the entire station premises, which is about 2.5 km long railway line and a small depot at the other end of the track.

  • A replica of a NZR RM class ( Model T Ford ) railcar

The Model T Ford railcar is a replica of a test vehicle from the year 1925, which was scrapped in the 1930s. The vehicle is a rarity, as only there is a second replica of a Model T Ford railcar in the U.S. exists, but built to specification. New Zealand's only so-called " half bird cage " ( observation car ) from 1895 and belongs to the inventory of railway wagons. In addition to numerous railway memorabilia, the museum also has an older computer model and operates an Old Time Movie Theatre.

Plants of the museum railway

Right in the center of Pleasant Point closest train station to the historic station building. The interlocking building now located right next to the station building, was originally located in a different place. A Umsetzgleis as well as a hub and a platform roofing complete the private premises. At the end of the 2.5 -kilometer-long railway line, which runs directly parallel to a road, there are two sheds to house the vehicles, a turntable and a loading ramp and a small platform.

The museum trains run on the 2.5- kilometer track during the summer months and the holiday season.
