Pleconaril is a drug which is used as an antiviral agent. It is an orally administrable Capsidblocker the third generation. Currently no commercial preparations are available.
Pharmacology
Pleconaril interacts with the capsid protein VP1 of rhinoviruses and enteroviruses. It competes with the pocket factor and occupies the hydrophobic pocket at the sites. This results in a conformational change in the viral capsid. In consequence of which the binding to cellular receptors and uncoating of the rhino-and enteroviruses is prevented.
