Plectopyloidea

Sculptaria sculpturata

The Plectopyloidea are a superfamily of gastropods from the subordination of terrestrial snails ( gastropod ). The representatives of the superfamily are located in South Asia and Southeast Asia. The oldest fossil representatives are from the Eocene of China ( Hebei ).

Features

The housings are right or linksgewunden and relatively small. You are strongly flattened to almost flat. The mouth is quite complex with teeth, bent and waved port edges. The jaw is relatively thin and striped vertically. It may also have a median projection. In hermaphroditic genitalia, the penis on the inner wall has a honeycomb-like structure composed of nodes. A epiphallus may be present or absent. The flagellum is, however, still rudimentary or absent. The vas deferens ( vas deferens ) is not due to the penis. The stem of spermathecae is relatively long and is not or only slightly widened at the base.

Geographical distribution and behavior

The Plectopyloidea are ( ( Ryukyu Islands) Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, China and southern Japan ), and in southwestern Africa spread in Tibet, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka, in Southeast Asia.

System

The superfamily is divided Plectopyloidea of Schileyko (1999) in two families ( Corillidae and Plectopylidae ), Bouchet and Rocroi (2005) organize three families.

  • Superfamily Plectopyloidea Moellendorff, 1898 Family Plectopylidae Moellendorff, 1898
  • Family Corillidae Pilsbry, 1905
  • Family Sculptariidae Degner, 1923

The Sculptariidae family is provided by Schileyko (1999) to the superfamily Acavoidea.
