Pliva

The Pliva d.o.o. (Note: doo, the Croatian equivalent of a limited liability company ) is a major pharmaceutical company and manufacturer of major drugs from Croatia, based in Zagreb. The current director of the company is Željko Covic. The company has several production sites throughout Europe. Pliva shares have been traded on the Zagreb Stock Exchange, German Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange and to be traded in the future on the New York Stock Exchange.

In October 2006 the company was sold to the big American company Barr Pharmaceuticals, which is now owned by 92% of Pliva shares. Previously, the Icelandic Actavis Group and Barr provided a months-long takeover battle, the Barr was finally able to decide for themselves. The price was 2.5 billion U.S. dollars. The offer of Actavis was as hostile while the offer of Barr was considered fair by management.

After October 25, 2006 with transfer of the share capital acquisition Pliva is an equivalent partner company of Barr Pharmaceuticals. The merger of Barr Pharmaceuticals and Pliva arises, calculated according to the total income, the world's third largest manufacturing companies of generic drugs. The global headquarters is located in New Jersey (USA). The Center for the division in Europe will be Zagreb.

The takeover of Pliva a global company that more than 120 generic drugs as well as 25 private brands in the U.S. and more than 550 products in Western and Eastern Europe arises generated. At the same time, the takeover of Pliva, the largest ever undertaken by American investment in Croatia and the region dar. In a statement Barr could explain that unused capacities are filled by the merger. It should be particularly invested in further research and development, especially of biotechnological drugs.

The end of 2007, the company employed 6,137 people and generated 2007 revenues of HRK 6.37 billion, earnings before interest and taxes ( EBIT) amounted to HRK 832 million, the net profit was HRK 707 million

December 23, 2008 Teva Barr Pharmaceuticals took over for U.S. $ 7.5 billion, so that Barr and Pliva (which Barr had bought earlier) became part of Teva.
