Pločnik

Pločnik ( Serbian Cyrillic Плочник ) is a village in the municipality of Prokuplje in southern Serbia. According to the 2002 census 182 people lived in the village.

The place is known by the battle of Pločnik in 1386th The Ottoman Sultan Murad I led an army against the Serbian prince Lazar Hrebeljanović. The Ottomans lost the battle, but were able to gain some time by conquering the city of Nis later.

During archaeological excavations in the vicinity of the place a prehistoric settlement with objects in copper, such as axes and chisels were found from the 6th millennium BC. This the Vinča culture attributed finds are currently considered the oldest smelted copper objects of the world and are up to 800 years older than the previously known Neolithic finds.
