Plötzensee (lake)

The 7.85 hectare and up to 7.0 meters deep Plotzensee ( mean depth 3.5 m) is a north-east of Berlin- Spandau navigation channel at Rehberge Park lake situated in Berlin -Wedding. Its greatest length is 740 m, the maximum width of 150 m and its riverside walk is approximately 1.7 km long. There is no above-ground inflow or outflow.

Naming, origin, use

The Plotzensee is named after the carp fish roach, who lived in large flocks in him. The lake is part of a glacial lakes canal which led to the Spree Valley from the northeast. 1443 Before the Spandau nunnery of St. Mary had the rights to use, which were then taken over by the Prussian treasury. 1817 bought the city of Berlin the lake and leased the rights to use the shore and the fishing rights. Edge development, including leisure facilities

Already in the 19th century was the " Great Plotzensee " a sports facility of the Army, which in 1891 was converted into a swimming pool. Fish fauna

The Plotzensee is fishing legally managed by the State of Berlin. Some time ago he was considered a good carp waters, were caught specimens of 16 kg, however, were observed much heavier.
