Plougrescant

Plougrescant ( Breton: Plougouskant ) is a commune with 1316 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Côtes- d'Armor in the Brittany region.

Geography

Plougrescant is part of the Côte de Granit Rose and the northernmost municipality of Brittany. It lies on a smaller peninsula that is bordered by the English Channel to the west and east by the estuary of the coastal river Jaudy. The municipality is one of the few kilometers northeast of the coastline, the Ile d'Er, a small island in private property, which is within walking distance at low tide.

Tréguier, capital of the canton of the same name, is about ten kilometers to the south. The southern neighboring municipality of Plougrescant is Plouguiel. Further west is bordered Plougrescant to Penvénan and to the east across the Jaudy, the community is Kerbors.

Demographics

The community recorded since the beginning of the 20th century, a continuous decline in population. While 1896 still 2,049 residents were counted, there were 1975, 1,557 inhabitants. Also, since the population decline continued.

Attractions

Worth seeing are the church of Saint- Chapelle Gonéry and the Château de Keralio whose chapel is listed as a monument historique ..

Is world-famous La Maison du Chasm, a small house, which was built right on the coast between two huge, jagged rocks and gives the impression of being clamped therebetween.

The islands of Ile de Pors Scaff, the headland Le Chasm with the Pointe du Château, as well as the beaches of Gouermel, Pors -hir and Pors are interesting landscape scaff.
