Plymouth is a city in the U.S. state of Massachusetts.

Plymouth was founded by the Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620 (see Mayflower Compact ). They named the town after their place of origin Plymouth on the coast of Devonshire in England. Plymouth was recognized in 1633 as the seat of the Plymouth Colony in 1691 and part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Today's economic importance lies next to the metal and fish processing in the textile industry and shipbuilding. Plymouth has about 57,000 inhabitants. Local attractions include a replica of the Mayflower and Plymouth Rock, the rock on which the Pilgrims had landed after the legend first. Both " eyewitnesses " of colonization can be seen at the city's port. There is also south of the center with the Plimoth Plantation, a living open -air museum.

At the Plymouth Rock of the tradition to have landed after William Bradford on the Mayflower. The foundation associated the Plymouth Colony is common with the founding of Virginia as the origin of the United States. In Plymouth, the National Monument to the Forefathers is (formerly called Pilgrim Monument ), which was built in 1907-1910. It is the third tallest statue in the U.S..

At the site there is the Pilgrim nuclear power plant.
