Pochaiv

Pochaiv (Ukrainian Почаїв; Russian Почаев / Pochayiv, Polish Poczajów ) is located a pilgrimage and monastery village with about 8200 inhabitants in the Ternopil Oblast in western Ukraine in Rajon Kremenez between cities Kremenez and Brody.

In the village is the Holy Assumption Monastery, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Western Ukraine.

At the township next to the town, the village Satyschschja heard ( Затишшя ).

History

1450 Pochaiv was first mentioned in writing in 1978 it got the city status awarded.

From 1340-1569 the city was in the Kingdom of Poland. Between 1569-1772 he was a member of Ruthenia Voivodeship, an administrative unit of the needle case- Publik Poland - Lithuania. From 1772-1914 Pochaiv was in Galicia, 1918-1939, it was part of the Voivodeship Tarnopolskie in the Republic of Poland.
