Podenzana

Podenzana is a municipality with 2150 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Massa -Carrara in Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 125 km ². It is located about 140 km north-west of Florence, about 30 km northwest of Massa and 25 km north- west of Carrara in the wine region Colli di Luni. Some districts are located on the Magra.

The community is divided into two main towns Podenzana and Montedivalli.

To Podenzana include Bagni, Barco, Battia Campana, Casa Lina, Ceresedo, Cerghiraro, Cospedo, Faito, Ficaro, La Costa, Laghi, Lagneda, Loppiedo, Metti, Montale, Montalini, Oliveto, Serracanda, Sescafale and Villa Argentina.

To Montedivalli include Casa Borsi, Fogana, Pagliadiccio, Pianello and Genicciola.

The neighboring municipalities are Aulla, Bolano ( SP), Calice al Cornoviglio ( SP), Follo ( SP), Licciana Nardi and Tresana.

History

Since the 12th century to the Napoleonic occupation, the area was under the control of the Malaspina di Villafranca, after the rule was passed on to the county Modena. The Kingdom of Sardinia annexed the area in 1859, and Sardinia was the place with the Italian unification part of the Tuscany region.
