Podturen (Hungarian Bottornya ) is a village in Croatia. The location on the Mur ( Mura) lies in the triangle, two kilometers from Hungary and one from Slovenia. Podturen is also just 48 km from Austria and around 100 km from Zagreb. Nearby towns are Varaždin, Čakovec and 8 km away small town Mursko Središće.

The municipality has 3,873 inhabitants ( 2011 census ) and was able to develop in recent years well by improving the infrastructure with the help of the Croatian Government.

History

Podturen, with Hungarian names Bottornya, was until 1945 in Hungary occupied since the bridge over the river Mur was strategically important for the only important connection to the Croatian County Medjimurje. Medjimurje and Podturen were liberated in 1945 and the important link road to Hungary was destroyed. Since then, she has not been renewed. In August 2008, an agreement between the Croatian and Hungarian local politicians was signed which provides for the construction of the bridge.
