Point Lobos

Monterey County

, Often simply called Point Lobos State Reserve Point Lobos, is a reserve south of Monterey, California and north of the coastline Big Sur. Due to the very steep sea coast ( the ocean floor quickly reached characteristics of the Pacific Ocean several miles off the coast) creates odd Tideneffekte and abnormally large amounts of oxygen get into the ocean water. This in turn attracts an unusual plant and animal world, of high plankton concentrations, the food chain up to larger mammals. Best known Point Lobos is known for its sea otter population.

Point Lobos offers many sea-front trails and several beaches. In the historic Whalers Cabin there is a small museum. Point Lobos is one of only two places where the Monterey cypress grows in the wild. In the waters around Point Lobos thrive extended Tangwälder. About half of the protected area is under water and can only be explored when diving.
