Pointe des Espagnols

The point of Espagnols ( bret. Beg ar Spagnoled ) is a cape on the Crozon Peninsula ( bret. Kraozon ) in the department of Finistère in Brittany. It forms the northernmost point of a small belonging to Crozon peninsula on which the city Roscanvel ( bret. Roskañvel ), and the Bay Rade de Brest ( Brest bret. Morlenn ) from the Atlantic Ocean separates, making for the Cape of particular strategic importance results. The Goulet de Brest ( bret. Mulgul Brest), the strait, which is dominated by the cape and the harbor of Brest is accessible for ships, has a width of only 2 km long, and directly opposite the Cape with a lighthouse provided Pointe de Portzic ( bret. Beg Porzhig ) ( on the western outskirts of Brest) is located. The strait is secured by a series of bastions, one of which is located directly at the Pointe des Espagnols. Even less spectacular one has beautiful views of the around 10 km south-west lying Cape Pointe de Penhir and on the north-east directly opposite the city of Brest.

The name is explained by the fact that here in 1594 landed the Spaniards and the people of Roscanvel forced to build a small fort.
