Polača, Zadar County

Polača (it. Polazza ) is a city and a municipality in Croatia. The community Polača located in the Zadar County near the town Benkovac.

The community consists of four varieties ( Naselja ):

  • Donja Jagodnja
  • Gornja Jagodnja
  • Kakma
  • Polača ( Polazza )

Demographics

The municipality had, according to the Census 2011 1.464 inhabitants, of whom 88.49 % 10.42% Croats and Serbs. The place had 2011 1.055 inhabitants. According to the 2001 census, the municipality had Polača 1,411 inhabitants, of whom 93.72 % were Croats. The main town had Polača 2001 1.117 inhabitants

History

In the Croatian war in 1991, built in 1820, listed Cosmas and Damian Church ( Sv Kuzma Damijan ) damaged by Serbian forces, with explosives. The community was located on the southern border of December 1991 founded, independent Serb-dominated Republic of Serbian Krajina ( Republika Srpska Krajina ), until it was retaken by Croatia in September 1995 by the operation Oluja ( Operation Storm ).

After the war Croatia hundreds of homes were built in Polača.
