Polaincourt-et-Clairefontaine

Polaincourt -et -Claire Fontaine is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Polaincourt -et- Clairefontaine is located at an altitude of 285 m above sea level, 5 km south-southwest of Vauvillers and about 30 km north- northwest of the city of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, on a plateau north of the Grand Bois.

The area of ​​21.40 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside of the east of the upper Saônetals. The central part of the area occupied by the high surface area of ​​Polaincourt which is on average 300 m. It is used predominantly agricultural, but there are larger areas of forest, particularly along the town limits. The plateau is divided by various hollows and dry valleys. Aboveground watercourses are only sparsely available in the west of the Ruisseau des Prés, which rises in Hurecourt, but seeps back after a short running track. A dry valley continues on to the Ruisseau de la Sacquelle which opens at Montureux -lès- Baulay in the Saône. At the very southeast edge of the area runs the Ruisseau du Batiqueux, a tributary of the Superbe. The rain water seeps thus mostly in the porous substrate.

The boundaries of the area to the north of the height of Hurecourt ( to 342 m), in the northwest of the Bois Lessus (310 m), in the south of the extensive grove of Grand Bois, in the 362 meters, the highest elevation of Polaincourt -et- Claire Fontaine is achieved, and to the southeast of the forest of Clairefontaine. With a narrow strip, the municipality's area extends southward to the Talniederung the Superbe. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists mainly of limestone of the Middle Triassic. Also sandy- marly and calcareous sediments occur at different locations revealed that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

The double municipality comprises the main town Polaincourt (285 m) on the high plateau and the settlement Clairefontaine (250 m ) in a Seitentälchen the Superbe on the edge of the Grand Bois. Neighboring communities of Polaincourt -et- Clairefontaine are Hurecourt and Montdoré in the north, and Melincourt Anchenoncourt -et- Chazel in the east, Saint- Remy, Senoncourt and Contréglise in the south and Saponcourt and Ormoy in the West.

History

Remains of a Roman road traffic have an early inspection and settlement of the area probably down. The Cistercian monastery Clairefontaine was established in 1131. Meanwhile monks reclaimed the area under cultivation and laid the foundations for the colonization. Is Polaincourt in 1150 first mentioned. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had the viscounts of Vesoul, Lords of Faucogney, held. The monastery Clairefontaine was destroyed in 1361 by the Grandes Compagnies a first time. Later it was in 1569 sacked by troops of the Duke Wolfgang of Pfalz- Zweibrücken, 1595 plundered by those under Tremblecourt and 1636 devastated again in the context of the Thirty Years' War.

Together with the Franche -Comté Polaincourt came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. During the French Revolution the monastery was secularized and declared his property to state ownership. In the buildings was in 1804-1932 a faience factory and from 1938 a hospital. Today Polaincourt -et -Claire Fontaine is a member of the comprehensive 13 villages municipal association Communauté de communes Agir Ensemble.

Attractions

The church is Gothic style forms, but was changed several times. The ship dates from the 16th century, the transept and the choir from the 19th century, the richly carved pulpit from the 17th century. The obtained today convent building of the former monastery Clairefontaine were built in the 18th century and are classified as a monument historique; some remains of the cloister from the 12th century are still visible.

Population

With 805 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Polaincourt -et -Claire Fontaine is one of the medium-sized towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 917 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded from 1940 to 1980. During this time, the population has more than doubled. Since 1990, a decrease of 35 % was observed again.

Economy and infrastructure

Polaincourt -et -Claire Fontaine was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture and animal husbandry ) and forestry embossed village. Today there are various companies of small and medium industries, including a factory that manufactures agricultural equipment and machinery. In the buildings of Clairefontaine a psychiatric clinic is housed. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Vauvillers after Faverney. Further road links exist with Saponcourt, Hurecourt, Melincourt and Anchenoncourt.
