Polish Baltic Philharmonic

The Baltic Philharmonic Hall ( Polska Filharmonia Bałtycka in. Fryderyka Chopina w Gdańsku ) is a concert hall in Gdansk on the Bleihofinsel ( Ołowianka ). It emerged in the years 1996 to 2002.

History

The orchestra was originally created in 1945 as an "Urban Symphony Orchestra " based in Sopot. After nationalization in 1949 it was renamed "State Baltic Philharmonic ". After the merger with the Opera Studio, the "State Baltic Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra " was born. Since 1993 the Philharmonic has been self again.

The building in which the Baltic Philharmonic Hall is today, was built in 1897-1898 as a power station with neo-Gothic facade. After the work had been shut down in 1996, it was subsequently established between 1996 and 2002 as a concert hall. The first concert took place in 2002 in the house in the " chamber music hall " instead, then the construction was completed gradually until 2006.

The main auditorium has 1100 seats. Director General was until 2008 the organist and director of the International Oliva organ music festivals, Roman Perucki. In 2008, the Berlin-born 1961 Kai Bumann the Artistic Director was. Bumann was in the 1997/1998 season, Artistic Director of the Krakow Opera.
