Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra

The National Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio (Polish: Polish National Orkiestra Symfoniczna Polskiego Radia ) was founded in 1935 in Warsaw as Wielka Orkiestra Symfoniczna Polskiego Radia. The first director and chief conductor until 1939 Grzegorz Fitelberg.

History

After the Second World War, the orchestra was founded in March 1945 by Witold Rowicki in Katowice new. 1947 took over the leadership again Grzegorz Fitelberg. After his death in 1953, the Orchestra of the conductor Jan Krenz, Bohdan Wodiczko, Kazimierz Kord, Tadeusz Strugała Jerzy Maksymiuk, Stanisław Wisłocki, Jacek Kaspszyk and Antoni Wit was conducted. 2000, the Office of the Director General and Program Director Joanna Wnuk - Nazarowa was entrusted. With the start of the 2012/13 season was Alexander Liebreich artistic director and chief conductor of the orchestra, making it the first German chief conductor in Poland since 1945.

The seat of the National Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio is located in the Upper Silesian Cultural Centre in Katowice, Plac Sejmu Śląskiego 2 The completion of a separate new building with a hall with 1800 seats is scheduled for December 2013.

Tours

The orchestra has performed in almost all European countries, as well as in Japan, Hong Kong, People's Republic of China, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Taiwan, USA, Canada and South American countries.

Sound recordings

The orchestra created audio recordings of over 190 CDs for Decca Records, EMI, Philips, Naxos and Chandos. The audio recording of Olivier Messiaen's " Turangalila " was awarded the Cannes Classical Award in 2002.
