Polycentropodidae

The Polycentropodidae are a family in the order of caddisflies.

Polycentropodiden or network caddis flies live as larvae prey on small organisms ( zooplankton) and not build a quiver. They capture their food with homespun funnel-shaped or tubular nets. There are also ways to create the communal nests.

The adult animals are 5-10 mm in size, the front wings are densely hairy, dark brown or gray and may have different patterns.

In Germany, there are 5 genera of Polycentropodidae which are easy to distinguish because of various morphological features. Worldwide there are about 300 known species of this family.
