Polyfill

A polyfill (also Polyfiller ) is a code block that is distributed with a website. It provides functions which are necessary for the correct display of the site in the browser of the viewer. For example, features of HTML5 is not available in older browsers. Web pages can still use it if they also supply a corresponding polyfill these functions.

The term " polyfill " derives from Polyfilla, the name of a UK widespread brand for wall - filling material (similar to the spread in the German speaking Moltofill ). It was created by Remy Sharp for his book Introducing HTML5 in 2009.
