Pomarose is a highly - intensive, patented by Givaudan captiver fragrance. Pomarose, a doubly unsaturated ketone, which does not occur in nature, has a very strong fruity rose scent with hints of apples, plums and raisins, dates back almost exclusively to the (2E, 5Z ) - stereoisomer. The (2E, 5E ) -configured isomer, however, is odorless for most people. However, even the slightest traces of acid are sufficient for cis -trans equilibration of the C-5 double bond, which is already observed about on prolonged standing in glass vessels.

Discovery and synthesis

In the analysis of NMR prospectuses kept Philip and employees 5,6,7 - Trimethylocta -2 ,5 -dien- 4-one initially for an unknown trace component with Damascongeruch in a complex reaction mixture. Said trace component of this mixture, however, was soon as the constitutionally isomeric 2 -methyl-3 - isopropylhepta -2 ,5-diene -4-one out, which also has a Damascongeruch indeed. And 5,6,7 - Trimethylocta -2 ,5 -dien- 4-one ( Pomarose ) was out of pure curiosity to the structure-odor relationships of this compound but then synthesized, and proved surprisingly as perfumistic hit with bright fruity Rose Note that in addition also recalled apple pie, plums and dried fruits. Use in perfumery

Pomarose debuted with 0.36% in " Be Delicious for Men" by Olivier and Pierre Negrin Gillotin. The DKNY Perfume letter was looking for a fragrance for ' a determined looking, cosmopolitan man who is open to anything that has to offer life in the Big Apple of New York '. In this context, the Apple Rose theme of Pomarose fit perfectly, so that the perfume was created by this fragrance around. Only a year later, Pomarose was 0.43 % in " Unforgivable " (Sean John, 2006) overdosed in a champagne accord of David Apel, Pierre Negrin, Caroline Sabas, and Aurélien Guichard. In " 1 million " ( Paco Rabanne, 2008) Christophe Raynaud, Olivier Pescheux and Michel Girard represent 0.18 % over this extremely intense perfume having a light leather note. Ellen Molner and Rodrigo Flores -Roux Pomarose used in the aromatic fougere fragrance " CK free " ( Calvin Klein, 2009), and Olivier Pescheux contrasted the oak moss perfume Evernyl with Pomarose in "Legend" ( Mont Blanc, 2011).
