Geography

Geographical Location

The community lies on the edge of the Steigerwald Nature Park. The realms Ebrach flows through the municipality in northwestern direction.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring municipalities are Frensdorf in the northeast, Hochstadt an der Aisch the southeast, Mulhouse in the south west (both in Erlangen- Hochstadt, Middle Franconia ) and Burgebrach in the Northeast.

There are the districts Oberndorf with pond and brick hut, Pommersfelden Limbach, Steppach with pride Roth and Unterköst, Sambach with Schweinbach and wind.

History

Pommersfelden was since the 14th century belonged to the Stewards of Pommersfelden. 1349 Henry Steward donated the church of St. Mary and St. John, and received the associated patronage. The former parish Seußling belonging place was simultaneously canonically independent.

With the death of Friedrich Ernst Steward of Pommersfelden on April 21, 1710 died of this noble family. In his will, Friedrich Ernst put the Elector Lothar Franz von Schönborn ( Archbishop of Mainz and Prince-Bishop of Bamberg ) as the sole heir. The rule of the Counts of Schönborn, who were also members of the Frankish knights circle, came with the Act of Confederation in 1806 to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform was the second church of 1818, the current community. Until 30 June 1972, she was part of the defunct district Hochstadt an der Aisch.

The church today Pommersfelden was created as part of the Bavarian municipal reform on May 1, in 1978 the formerly independent communities of Oberndorf, Pommersfelden, Sambach and Steppach.

Mayor of Pommersfelden since 1996, Hans Beck of the voting bloc Sambach, who was re-elected in 2008 and 2014, each with 66 percent of the vote.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: Shared; above in a blue silver stake that is occupied with the silver capital letter T beseitet each a red crenellated tower, bottom border in red on three bowed silver tips a blue crowned and reinforced doppelschwänziger golden lion.

Economy

Traffic

By municipality performs the railway Strullendorf key field, since on the setting of the passenger traffic in 1977, only goods are transported to and from key field. In the south of the municipality of the federal motorway runs 3 to the junction Pommersfelden. To the south you can reach via the motorway the cities of Erlangen and Nuremberg, while in a westerly direction Würzburg is the nearest town. From the junction Pommersfelden the main road leads 505 to about twenty kilometers away Bamberg.

Volunteer fire

In the community Pommersfelden there are volunteer fire services in Oberndorf / Pond, Pommersfelden / Limbach, Sambach and Steppach.

Breweries

The Hennemann brewery in Sambach is the only remaining brewery on the territory of the municipality. Until 1979 the castle was brewing brewery thorn in Pommersfelden until 1975, Seubert brewery in Steppach. The Hofmann Green Tree Brewery in Pommersfelden presented in 1985 the brewing operation.

Culture and sights

Structures

In the south of the village Pommersfelden is - recognized as a separate district - the 1711-1716 built by Lothar Franz von Schönborn white stone, which is located in the family. The baroque castle houses an impressive staircase, a garden room grotto and a remarkable collection of paintings.

In the center of Pommersfelden are the remains of a former moated castle and in Sambach is a Jesuitenschloss. Both of which are not open to the public. Churches there are in the villages Limbach, Pommersfelden, Sambach and Steppach.

Parks

The castle white stone heard an English landscape park from the 19th century.

Others

2013 nesting and brooding in Steppach Black Storks in the vicinity of a white stork nest also occupied. This fact is remarkable, since the disturbance-sensitive black storks usually avoid human settlements and breed in forests.
