Pompeianus

Tiberius Claudius Pompeianus Quintianus was a member of the Roman upper classes, who participated in a conspiracy against Emperor Commodus in 181 or 182.

Quintianus was married to Aurelia, daughter of Commodus ' sister Lucilla from her marriage with the Emperor Lucius Verus. According to Cassius Dio, he also maintained an intimate relationship with Lucilla. Quintianus was probably a nephew of the commander and son of Marcus Aurelius, Tiberius Claudius Pompeianus. By his marriage he was definitely a member of the imperial family. Quintianus belonged to the assassination and the inner circle to Commodus, whose drinking buddy and companion in youthful escapades he was. Quintianus ' son Commodus Lucius Aurellius Pompeianus.

In the year 181 or 182 Lucilla, Quintianus, Ummidius Quadratus and others to assassinate Emperor Commodus conspired. According to the literary sources Lucilla said to have been the leading force. After Herodian Lucilla had after the wedding of Commodus with Bruttia Crispina fear for their position as Augusta and therefore wanted to assassinate her brother.

The reports of the attack are very uniform in the sources: When Commodus was on his way to the amphitheater, Quintianus crashed, rather than immediately stab, with the call to him: "This sends you to the Senate ." Thus he gave the guards the opportunity to overpower him, and so to save the life of the Emperor. Quintianus and Ummidius Quadratus were executed subsequently. Lucilla was first exiled and later executed as well.
