Pomponio Amalteo

Pomponio Amalteo (* 1505 in Motta di Livenza, province of Treviso, † March 9, 1588 in San Vito al Tagliamento, Pordenone Province) was an Italian painter.

Life and work

Without a special genius to be the artist a busy imitating his teacher Giovanni Antonio proves in his creations as Pordenone, whose grandiose way but sometimes exaggerated and recorded only outwardly appears in the form of hand signals with the student. He, too, seems to have served as a model Titian.

1533 and 1534 he painted in the Cathedral of San Vito several large statues of saints, in the town hall ( Loggia ) to Ceneda biblical and Roman historical images. Working from him are in Santa Maria de ' Battuti to San Vito al Tagliamento, Prodolone and in the Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata of Udine.

His brother Girolamo and his daughter Quintilia dedicated themselves to the art; those delivered artful miniatures, this also plastic plants.
