Pont de la Margineda

The Pont de la Margineda in the district of La Margineda is the oldest bridge in the municipality of Sant Julia de Loria and also the largest bridge across the Principality of Andorra.

The arch bridge built in the 14th century is almost ten meters wide, approximately 33 meters long and spans the river Gran Valira. It is regarded as an example of the engineering skills of the past centuries. The closed to normal traffic bridge was regularly renovated in recent years and is now a pedestrian bridge that connects La Margineda with the parish of Sant Julia de Loria. Next to the bridge is a sculpture, a work of the Valencian artist Vincente Alfaro, which was built to commemorate the first Congress of the Catalan language and literature in 1906.

The bridge is on the basis of the Law on the Cultural Heritage of Andorra ( Llei del Patrimoni cultural d' Andorra) on 12 June 2003 as a protected monument. An identical smaller arch bridge from the 15th century, the Pont de Sant Antoni de la Grella, is located in La Massana.
