Pontcey

Pontcey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Pontcey situated at an altitude of 215 m above sea level, 6 km southeast of Scey -sur -Saône -et -Saint -Albin and about 9 km west from Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in the valley of the Durgeon south of Saônetals, on the eastern edge of the Bois des Minières.

The area of ​​5.87 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the upper Saônebeckens. From southeast to northwest, the area is crossed by the valley of the Durgeon, which provides for drainage Saône. The valley, which is on average 210 m, widens the range of Pontcey to a basin of about one kilometer in diameter. Durgeon the valley is flanked on both sides by terraces that reach a height of 250 m. These plateaus consist of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period. The fertile soils of the Talniederung and plateaus are primarily used for agricultural purposes. East of Durgeon rises the height of Mont Faut (up to 260 m). The southern boundary is the forest height of Mont Vallery, on the 267 meters, the highest elevation of Pontcey is achieved. To the west, the municipality's area covers the extensive grove of Bois des Minières (up to 260 m).

Neighboring communities of Pontcey are Chemilly and Vauchoux in the north, Montigny- lès- Vesoul and Chariez in the east, the south and Boursières Aroz in the West.

History

Remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement site indicate a very early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages Pontcey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Chemilly. The parish was subject always to the dean's office of Scey -sur -Saône. Together with the Franche -Comté Pontcey came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Pontcey is a member of the 22 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Combes.

Attractions

The church of Saint - antide was rebuilt in 1666 on the site of an earlier church. It has a remarkable interior, including a richly sculpted altar (17th century) and pulpit, statues from the 16th century and several grave slabs. Additional attractions include a Calvaire (17th century), a cross ( 18th century ) in the cemetery as well as the, also from the 18th century stone bridge over the Durgeon.

Population

With 252 inhabitants ( 2005) Pontcey one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1896 233 persons were still counted ), a significant population growth was recorded during the 1980s. Economy and infrastructure

Pontcey was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
