Pontifical Academy of the Immaculate Conception

The Pontifical Academy of the Immaculate Conception (Italian: Pontificia Accademia dell'Immacolata ) is a Pontifical Academy of the Roman Curia, which was united on 4 December 2012 with the International Pontifical Marian Academy.

Precursor of the Academy in 1835 was a Roman by students from seminaries and the Pontifical Gregorian University, was established out student club. From the Congregation for Catholic Education, the club on July 7, 1847 Pontifical Academy of Sciences was assumed with the term " Immaculate Conception Accademia di MV " and a seat at the Basilica of the Friars Minor, Santi Apostoli established.

By Pope Pius IX. she was raised on 8 December 1864 a Papal Academy. 1938 with the approval by Pope Pius XI. academic celebration " Omaggio floreale " justified, which is celebrated annually on December 8 at the Piazza di Spagna at the Colonna dell'Immacolata, the column of the Immaculate, together with the Pope. The purpose of the Academy is the promotion and coordination of research and studies on the Marian dogmas.

The Academy and its scientists headed by a president. Task of the President is to ensure, among other things, the communication with the Pontifical Council for Culture and the Pontifical Academies, and to organize the annual meetings. He is automatically a member of the Council on the coordination of the Pontifical Academies.
