Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses

The Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses (Latin: Pontificius Comitatus Eucharisticis Internationalibus Conventibus provehendis, ita. Pontifical Comitato per i Congressi Eucaristici Internazionali ) is a committee of the Roman Curia, and was instituted by Pope Leo XIII. founded. Benedict XVI. approved on 2009, a new statute. History

The first International Eucharistic Congress in 1881 on the initiative of Leo XIII. held in Lille. In 1879, this a permanent committee for International Eucharistic Congresses has been established. With the new statute of April 2, 1986, the Committee of John Paul II received the title " Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses ." Benedict XVI. approved on 24 December 2009, the new statute.

Task and operation

The main task of the Pontifical Committee is to plan and pastoral preparation for the International Eucharistic Congresses. It checks that apply will end conventions, and shall, together with the delegates established the Congress theme. Both can approve the committee by the Pope. For further preparation, the committee created the basic text and sets the program. Composition and organization

The committee is headed by a President, who is appointed for a period of five years from the Pope. It can be confirmed in his office. The pope appoints all other members of the committee, then choose a Vice President. Organs of the Committee are the General Assembly and the Board Council. At the General Assembly, which is convened every two years, include all members, national delegates and additionally charged by the President persons. The Board Council meets at least once a year, it consists of the President, the Vice President and the members nominated by the Pope. The Secretariat is composed of the other officials of the Pontifical Committee.
