Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Health Care Workers

The Pontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care Workers (Latin: Pontifical Consilium per Valetudinis Administris ) was established by the Motu Proprio Dolentium Hominum John Paul II on 11 February 1985 as the Pontifical Commission for the Pastoral Care. With the Apostolic Constitution Pastor Bonus of 28 June 1988, the Commission for permanent Pontifical Council was charged.

Tasks

The Council coordinates the activities of various departments, if they relate to health care. His duties are to promote and impetus for training and study. It spreads explains and reinforces the teachings of the Church on matters of health, by maintaining contact with local churches and bishops in the field of health service. The Council develops programs and initiatives for health policy at international and national levels. The magazine " Dolentium Hominum " is published quarterly and is under the responsibility of the Pontifical Council.

Presidium

The Bureau shall be composed of the president, a secretary, a sub- secretary and six assessors. The Pope determines a further 36 members and up to 50 consultants who are each composed of bishops, priests, religious and laity. The Bureau coordinates and organizes conferences, symposia and lectures related to health care. Every year in November, held an international conference at the Vatican. The topic will be determined by the Bureau.
