Pontrieux

Pontrieux ( Pontrev Breton ) is a commune with 1018 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the region of Brittany in the département of Côtes- d'Armor and capital of the canton Pontrieux. It lies on the banks of the River Trieux. The name Pontrieux means " bridge over the Trieux " (Latin Pons super Triticum ).

History

Pontrieux was from the 15th century to the 19th century an active trading town, were traded in the mainly corn, linen and flax, wine, and horses. Until the 19th century the bridge Saint -Yves of Pontrieux was the only link between the town of Guingamp and the sea, which made ​​it possible to move from one bank of the Trieux ( Trégor ) to another ( Goélo ). In Pontrieux the first tickets for the Paris Metro were printed.
