Pope Marinus II

Marinus II ( in the late Middle Ages, often erroneously called Martin III, . * In Rome, † May 946 ) was Pope of 30 October 942 to May 946

He was a Roman origin, and before his pontificate probably Cardinal Priest of San Ciriaco.

Marinus was elected as the third pope instructed by the then all-powerful in Rome Prince Alberic II as Pope, of whose decisions he was totally dependent.

January 945 returned Berengar II of Ivrea from Germany, where he had fled from the Italian king Hugh of Arles in the days of Pope Stephen VIII, back to Italy.

Larger meaning of his pontificate is only the presentation of the dignity of Vicar Apostolic to the Archbishop Frederick of Mainz 946. Only eight real instruments of ownership acknowledgments to the Italian Episcopal churches and monasteries have been handed down from him.
