Pope Urban I

St. Urban ( † 230) was 222-230 Pope and Bishop of Rome. Its name means " the townspeople " ( latin ) and the Liber Pontificalis gives him an urban Roman origin. Historically, about him little known.

He is mentioned by Eusebius of Caesarea in his Ecclesiastical History and there is also an inscription in the crypt of Pope St. Callistus catacombs with his name. He exercised his ministry in the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus, who the Christians behaved tolerant. The schism of Hippolytus of Rome continued. The Church celebrates May 25 as its day of remembrance, which is probably of his death according to ancient tradition.
