Poppenbüll

Poppenbüll is a municipality in the district of North Friesland Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography and transport

Poppenbüll is located about twelve kilometers north-west of Tonning and ten kilometers northeast of Sankt Peter- Ording on the peninsula Eiderstedt. A few kilometers south extend the federal highway 202 and the railway line from Husum to Sankt Peter- Ording.

History

The place name probably means the settlement of Poppo, the word part " büll " is borrowed from the Danish. It means living space '. Poppo, possibly a native Nordstrander, had a 960-970 in this area as an apostle, as J. A. Petersen in his "Walks through the Duchies of Schleswig, Holstein and Lauenburg " ( 1839-47 ) writes. The Johanniskoog was probably dammed in the 12th century ( Caspar Danckwerth called Recalling Peter Sax the year 987 ) and in 1113 built in Poppenbüll a church that belonged to the parish in Garding. The Altar of St. John's church, which was created by Marten van Pay is, " has been renewed understanding " in 1883 by the North Frisian painter Carl Ludwig Jessen.

First, only 1.50 meters high dike surrounding the small polder, which was raised from case deep down twice. The dike protected the economy and any more, erected in the 12th century Großwarften ( Helmfleth, Hundorf and others). After Bedeichung was an expansion of Hofwarften.

In the local elections on May 26, 2013, the voters Community Poppenbüll ( WGP ) won all seven seats. The turnout was 63.9 percent.

Mayor

For the election period 2013-2018 Kurt Eichert was elected mayor. He succeeds by Wiebke Buschmann, the Office held 19 years.

Economy

The municipal area is predominantly agricultural.
