Porcelain gallbladder

A porcelain gallbladder is a disease of the gall bladder, wherein there is a hardening of the wall. The hardening is caused by fibrous connective tissue fibers ( scar tissue) and lime. The latter are the porcelain gallbladder her name. She looks whitish and feels hard like porcelain. In ultrasound, the gallbladder wall is thickened and compressed, the radiograph its contour can be seen.

The porcelain gallbladder usually arises from a chronic cholecystitis ( gallbladder inflammation ) and is considered a precancerous lesion (risk factor for the development of cancer ).

The treatment consists in the removal of the gallbladder ( cholecystectomy).
