Port Howard

Port Howard (Spanish: Puerto Mitre ) is the capital of belonging to the Falkland Islands, the second most important main island of West Falkland.

The harbor lies to the east of the island at Falklandsund opposite the main island of East Falkland and features a harbor its own runway. In 2012, Port Howard had 22 inhabitants. The place is located in the center of a 810 km ² large sheep farm. Most of the twenty inhabitants of the service sector as well as fishing and sheep farming ( 42,000 pieces).

1982 Occupy Argentina, Falkland Islands, which triggered the Falklands War. In Many Branch Point a ridge near Port Howard a short skirmish took place in which a British soldier, Gavin Hamilton was killed by the SAS. It was the only battle that took place on West Falkland.
