Port of Koper

Port of Koper ( Luka Koper or ) is the international seaport of Koper in Slovenia and also the name of the corporation that operates this port.

The Port of Koper is a multipurpose port in the north of the Adriatic Sea in the Gulf of Trieste. It connects Central and Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean and across the Strait of Gibraltar and the Suez Canal with America and the Far East. The depth of water in the harbor ranges from 7 to 18 meters. It can enter the harbor vessels with a capacity of up to 180,000 tons. The Port of Koper is an EU port with GDP growth status (Border Inspection Post).

The entire port area has the status of a free trade zone. The Port of Koper is an intermodal trade association with various forms of transport and handling systems: Ro -Ro technology, equipment for the handling and storage of general goods, project cargo, containers, carts, loose and liquid goods and live animals.

The port is organized in nine centers use, into which specialized terminal activities performed. All terminals are located directly on the coast and are equipped with modern handling, transportation and storage technology.

The hinterland of the port extends over the entire region of Central and Eastern Europe, ranging from Slovenia and Austria to Hungary, Italy, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and southern Germany. For Austria, he was the international port with the largest cargo in 2010. The port is intertwined directly with the European road and rail system. The Port of Koper has, among other branch offices in Vienna and Munich. The operating company Luka Koper in 2005 in a joint venture with the Graz- Köflacher rail and bus operations GmbH, the railway company Adria Transport doo established to strengthen the supply chain and over the rail into the hinterland. The first trains with kerosene were conducted in summer 2008 to Vienna -Schwechat Airport.
