Portuguese-speaking African countries

PALOP is the abbreviation for países africanos de língua oficial portuguesa, on German African countries with Portuguese official language. The confederation consists of the former Portuguese overseas provinces, the lead official language is Portuguese. These are as follows: Angola, Mozambique, Guinea- Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Cape Verde.

The PALOP countries have various agreements with Portugal, they are development partners in the fields of culture, education, development and preservation of the Portuguese language.

Equatorial Guinea also attempts to be included in this group, justifying this by the fact that it was a Portuguese colony from the 15th to the 18th century. It has therefore declared Portuguese (in addition to Spanish and French) as the official language, but it is actually not used in the country.
